Lisa Whelchel Divorces

When I first read about Lisa Whelchel’s marriage coming to an end, I was beyond stunned. I remember when she and Steve Cauble married in 1988. She was 25, and her nine-year run on “The Facts of Life” had just come to an end. Her co-stars were the bridesmaids. The two would have three children. Theirs was a marriage which seemed destined to last. I read details about her marriage in one of her books. A lot of comments have surfaced which focus on the fact both Lisa and Steve are Christians. There is nothing to mock, judge, or laugh about. Just because a person is a Christian does not mean their life is perfect, or is not subject to a sad event like divorce. Sometimes, people just grow apart. Why should the breakup of their marriage be more of a loss than for any other couple? It’s foolish to have such high expectations upon anyone solely because of their religious beliefs. At the end of the day, people are people. Unpleasant things happen to everyone. Marriage is work.. a lot of it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out for every couple.

We might not ever know why their marriage ended, but is it really any of our business? Other than satisfying some lame curiosities, what good would it do to find out? Steve and Lisa have obviously chosen to take the high road, and not discuss the divorce, nor one another, harshly in the press. When she mentioned the divorce to People magazine, she said the two remain friends, and will always be family. They watched her debut on “Survivor” together, along with their kids. I missed it, due to being at a Blondie concert.

Divorce is always a very painful experience for anyone to go through. However, I know their lives are not over. God still has great things for each of them. I wish Steve and Lisa the best.
